Snails in the Rain is beautifully shot with a very strong cast. It deals with the confusion of sexuality and repression in a very creative way, ‘peeling the onion’ of discovery both for the audience and the characters.
It’s inevitable that some of you may doubt you’d enjoy watching a film with subtitles, but the Hebrew language is a beautiful thing with very different inclinations to English. This only enhances the actors performance and doesn’t hinder the film in any way. In fact I feel it heightens it, for as Boaz feels he has been put under the microscope, connecting with the visual rather than the language forces us as the viewer to aid in putting him there.
